Hi, my name is Shannon. I’m a 21 year old breastfeeding mother living in the Dudley Borough. I’m a mommy to a lovely little girl named Robyn-Lee who is now 8 months old!
So here I am about to share a positive journey with you.
While I was pregnant I heard horror stories of bleeding and cracked nipples, tongue tie, incorrect latch, TEETHING and so much more!! Me being me took those factors into consideration but I also stayed determined and I knew there was no other option regardless of the horror stories I was told.
Fast forward to when she was born and we had our first feed. The latch was perfect. We were both so comfortable and happy. Overnight in the hospital while I was waiting to be discharged Robyn couldn’t latch properly but with the help from the brilliant midwives at Russles Hall Hospital I was able to correct the latch for her to feed comfortably.
Breastfeeding is a learning process for both mother and baby. You have to find what works for you and what you both find comfortable. We were discharged the next day and we learned to feed on our own and still 8 months on she loves her mommas milk!
In regards to public feeding, me personally have never had any problems, if anything I’ve had a lot more people smile at me while feeding which was a great confidence boost! It’s only a baby having their milk at the end of the day!
I hope this message helps any expecting mothers especially young mothers to give breastfeeding a go because it’s a bond bottle feeding cannot offer. While feeding my daughter I feel so connected to her as if we are one again. As mothers our bodies yearn to be at one with our baby again and to be honest, I think this is the closest you’ll be able to get to that.
